SOUPER BOWL OF CARING
Next Weekend, February 4 & 5
More than 20 years ago, the Souper Bowl of Caring
began with a simple prayer from a single youth group:
“Lord, as we enjoy the Super Bowl football games, help
us to be mindful of those without even a bowl of soup to
eat.” Since that day, more than $60 million has been
raised for local charities across the country, through the
Souper Bowl of Caring. The number of Americans living
in poverty is the highest it has been in 52 years. One in
seven households in our nation are food insecure, which
affects more than 16 million children (source: United States
Department of Agriculture)
Next weekend, CYM members will be standing at the
church doors with soup pots collecting money for the
Souper Bowl of Caring. Every dollar donated at Holy Souls
will go to Our House Homeless Shelter.

and save a life.
Why should you donate blood?
• Every two seconds, someone in America needs blood.

• There is no substitute for blood.
• Only 5% of the eligible population donates blood.
• Most donors donate 1.5 times a year.
• You never know when you, a loved one, or a friend
will need blood. Blood must be available before it is
needed.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO PRAY FOR
VOCATIONS IN A SPECIAL WAY?
The Holy Souls Vocations Committee, whose members
engage in prayer and activities that nurture a vocations friendly culture at Holy Souls, sponsor the
Vocations Chalice Program. Individuals,
families, classrooms, and groups are invited
to accept a special Vocations Chalice for a
week. It is presented by the priest during one
of the weekend Masses. You’re asked to display the chalice prominently in your home and use
it as a focal point to pray for vocations…both new and
existing. The chalice is returned to the church office
by the following Friday. You may sign up on the Holy
Souls website. |
BLACK & INDIAN MISSION COLLECTION
January 28 and 29
The annual collection for the Black and Indian Missions
support missionaries here in the United States who are
evangelizing in the Black and Indigenous Catholic
communities. Your monetary sacrifices assist with
mission schools, religions education programs, the
purchase of Catechetical materials, Bibles and ministry
training to continue the mission of Jesus Christ. The
support the Diocese of Little Rock receives from the
Black and Indian Missions helps assure that African
American children are able to attend Catholic schools,
support the Diocesan Council for Black Catholics,
assists low income families with daycare, and other
ministries and evangelization efforts of the African
America community in Arkansas.

UPDATE MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION
Does our Church database have YOUR family
membership record correct? Here is your chance to
update YOUR record for our annual Guide Book &
Directory (if you haven’t already done so).
It is time for us to update our database with any changes,
additions, or deletions that may have occurred in YOUR
family over the past year.
Have you changed your phone number or email
address? Have you moved? Are you preparing to move
soon? Are all of your children still at home and are they
all included in your membership record? Do you want
your record published?
If you have not already informed the Church Office about
changes to your record, please let us know now so that
the information in the Guide Book & Directory is correct.
The Church Office number is 663-8632 or email
office@holysouls.org. Thank you for your help! |
GUIDE BOOK & DIRECTORY
Advertising Opportunity
We are in the process of updating our annual Guide
Book & Directory for the Church. This book will be the
Who, What, Where, When, Why and How of our
Congregation. The book is being provided at no cost
to our Church, including the mailing to each family,
and again is being subsidized by local businesses that
advertise in it. If you own or manage a business and
would like to find out about advertising in our book,
please call the Church Office.
Recent survey results by Guide Book Publishing show
that 92.1% of families would rather patronize a Guide
Book & Directory advertiser over a non-advertiser. It
“will pay” to advertise in our new Guide Book &
Directory. |
40 HOUR DEVOTION
This Lent for our Parish Mission, we will be participating
in what is known as the 40 Hour Devotion; it is a special
forty hours of continuous prayer made before the
Blessed Sacrament in solemn exposition. This devotion
provides a wonderful opportunity for the spiritual growth
of each person and the parish as a whole.
We will need
parishioners around the clock in the church for the 40
Hours, can you give one hour of your time during lent
to be with the Lord? This will offer you a great
opportunity to spend quiet time with God. The date is
Tuesday, March 13 & Wednesday, March 14. Please
plan to make this part of your Lenten journey. |
2011 CHURCH CONTRIBUTIONS
To ensure your church contributions are tax deductible,
do not file your 2011 income tax return until you have
received a written acknowledgement of your
contributions from the Holy Souls Business Office.
These year-end tax statements will be mailed to you
by January 31, 2012. Contribution statements will be
mailed to households with a minimum contribution of
